Confused by the recent USPS rate changes?  You're not alone!

Under the Post Office's new shape-based pricing model...

If a typical First Class mailpiece is over 3.5 ounces, more than 1/4 inch thick or larger than 6 1/8" x 11 1/2", it is re-classified from a "Letter" to a "Large Envelope" and requires 39 cents additiional postage!  If that same First Class mailpiece is more than 13 ounces, over 3/4" thick or larger than 12" x 15", the Post Office no longer considers it a "Letter" or a "Large Envelope."  This item would be categorized as a "Package" under the new shape-based rating guidelines and is 72 cents more expensive!

Unfortunately, it doesn't end there.  There are other mail piece characteristics such as aspect ratio, flexibility and uniformity of thickness that can disqualify an item as a letter or large envelope.

Without the proper tools to accurately weigh and measure your outbound mail, it is very easy to under-post important mailpieces. Mail that is under-posted may be delivered to your recipient with "postage due" or may be returned to you for "insufficient postage." Additionally, the time required to rate and meter the mail can skyrocket if you aren't properly equipped.

Practically every business mailer needs one of the following two solutions:

1) If your mail volume is low to moderate, a commercial-grade rate classification guide may be a great solution to save time and increase accuracy.

This sturdy, self-standing, acrylic rate classification guide can help efficiently categorize mail under the new shape-based pricing regulations.  It contains the necessary size measurements and thickness slots to allow users to easily determine if a mail piece should be rated as a letter, large envelope or package.  It is also manufactured to endure years of daily usage.  The rate classification guide can be ordered at Modular's online store.

2) If your mail volume is moderate to heavy, a mailing system equipped with a dynamic scale can streamline and even fully automate the new shape-based rating process. A dynamic scale can measure size/thickness, weigh, and accurately meter each mail piece on-the-fly.  Simply load mail pieces of varying shape, size, thickness and weight, and the dynamic scale does the rest!

Both the dynamic scale and rate classification guide are specially reduced for a limited time only.
